Privacy Policy

Stepless · last updated 29 July 2026

Stepless is a browser extension published by Etta Biotechnology Inc., a corporation registered in Delaware, United States, which is the data controller for the purposes of this policy. "We" and "our" below refer to that company.

Stepless has no server. Accessibility scanning happens entirely inside your browser. We do not receive, store, or transmit the content of any page you scan, because there is nowhere for it to go.

What the extension does with page content

When you click Scan this page, the extension injects the open-source axe-core engine into the tab you are viewing and analyses the page in place. Results are held in the popup for as long as it is open. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is retained after you close it.

What is stored on your device

That is the complete list. Uninstalling the extension removes it.

Website content, and what "reading" means here

To find accessibility failures, the extension necessarily reads the content of the page you scan — its text, images, links, form fields and computed styles. That reading happens inside your browser, in the moment you ask for it. The content is used to produce the findings you see, and then it is gone: it is not sent anywhere, not written to disk, and not retained once you close the popup. We never receive it, so we could not retain it if we wanted to.

Chrome asks us to declare this as handling "website content" even though nothing is transmitted, and we do. We would rather over-declare than have you discover something we glossed over.

What we do not collect

Reports you export

Exported reports are generated in your browser and saved to your own computer. They contain the findings and markup snippets from the page you scanned. Where those reports go afterwards is entirely up to you; we never see them.

Permissions, and why each is needed

The extension holds no permission for any website you browse. It can read a page only in the moment you ask it to scan one.

Payments

If you upgrade, payment is handled by our payment provider, who receives only what is needed to process the transaction. We never see or store your card details. The extension records only whether your plan is free or pro.

Third-party code

Stepless bundles axe-core by Deque Systems (Mozilla Public License 2.0), unmodified. It runs locally and makes no network requests.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the updated version will be published here with a new date before the change takes effect.
